Embossed Braille Volumes

CSB CARE is the primary producer of embossed Hebrew Braille volumes in the US.  Most of these volumes are custom-tailored to the individual needs of each reader.  For example, some children are only able to read double-spaced Braille, while others can only use single-sided Braille.  CSB CARE accommodates each client according to his or her specific needs.  CSB CARE has a vast library of digital texts available for Hebrew Braille production for every level of study.  CSB CARE has developed several Braille innovations that are unavailable anywhere else in the world.
Braille\Print
CSB CARE has developed software which produces Hebrew Braille volumes with visible print letters beneath the embossed Braille. This is an incredible aid for the parents and teachers of blind children who can now assist and monitor their children while they read. Though the production process is lengthy and complicated, the results are well worth it. This innovation has allowed blind students to be mainstreamed, and has changed the landscape of Hebrew Braille education for blind children across the globe!
Braille Chumash/Rashi Gemara/Rashi
CSB CARE developed software which produces Braille volumes of Chumash and Rashi, or Gemara and Rashi in which the main text of the Chumash or Gemara is on the top of the page and the accompanying Rashi commentary is at the bottom. A full set of Braille/Print Chumash/Rashi comprises 22 volumes, and producing these multi-text volumes takes an entire week to prepare!
Special Hebrew Braille Projects

CSB CARE has created many one-of-a-kind Braille volumes to fulfill specific needs.

  • A blind Hebrew reading teacher asked that her Braille volumes reference the page and line numbers of the sighted students’ books to enable her to announce the place when starting her lesson.
  • One CSB client is a chazzan on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur who uses an extensively customized Braille machzor optimized for leading the tzibbur.
  • Most adult clients receive customized siddurim and machzorim to make their volumes lighter and more accessible. They request abbreviations be used in place of common words to help shorten the number of pages in each volume.
  • Magazines in Braille
Thanks to the generosity of the Jewish magazines who send us their files, CSB embosses and distributes weekly several magazines in Braille. Blind adults and children can now also be “in the know” at the Shabbos table as they receive timely reading material. A Yom Tov edition can easily be 15 Braille volumes! Some of the children who receive these magazines wait for the mailman to get their magazines as soon as they arrive.
    Artscroll & Feldheim in Braille
CSB produces and distributes Artscroll and Feldheim books in Braille. These publishers generously provide CSB digital files to create flawless Braille reproductions of their printed books. At times, they must perform substantial modifications to prepare the files for CSB’s use.  Some of the children’s books have the pictures from the printed version bound into the Braille volume to allow blind parents to read to their sighted children who can look at the pictures while the parent reads to them.
