Testimonials January 23, 2003 Dear Rabbi Lehman,
Computer Science for the Blind is the only organization I know that gives blind
people like me instant access to Chumash and Rashi without the arduous task of
locating psukim on tape. For the first time in my life, I am able to search for
specific words in the Chumash. March 1, 2003 To Rabbi Lehman, I would like to share with you a success story that you brought about. My daughter R., who has lost a lot of vision during the past few years, has recently been considered legally blind. Due to her sight loss, many hardships arose in her school work. She was provided with a VIP (a private teacher to help out with her English studies) by the school system, but her Hebrew subjects remained a big problem. She began to encounter daily struggles. In order for her to accomplish anything, from doing homework assignments to studying for tests, she had to rely on others for assistance. The day I received your "talking Chumash" CD, my daughter was overjoyed. Not only did it enlighten her greatly, but it also motivated her to learn and study Chumash and Rashi with much more enthusiasm. Though she still needs help with other subjects, her difficulties in Chumash have basically been solved B"H. May Hashem give you mush success in helping others who reach out to you. With boundless appreciation, M. S. December 20, 2002 Dear Mr. Lehman, I'm writing this letter to thank you for opening the door to a world that I thought was closed. This is not just a matter of politeness, but one of access. For me it's not the question of entering a place that was close to me, but enabling me to participate in a tradition that united me with friends and family. When my father taught me Rashi, I must admit I wasn't always the most patient child. Little did I know that I would have to rely on my memories of those encounters in order to have access to decoding the Torah. I frankly had given up on any serious Torah learning until simply by accident I received in the mail a CD which now gives me access to Rashi on the Chumash. This is not only a matter of knowledge but also a spiritual encounter. I have been so excited by this that I've shared it with other students I work with on campus who now like me are able to discuss certain points of Torah understanding, which we thought only others could do for us. I hope that this CD is properly publicized so that others too may enter the world that I now have found myself in. I can't thank you enough. Sincerely, Rabbi S. B. December 12, 2002 Dear Mr. Lehman, I am a twenty-six year old blind girl. I presently hold a masters degree in special education from Touro College. I also am presently employed as a special education teacher. My job entails teaching Judaic studies to elementary school age children. One of the subjects that I teach is translation of Chumash. The Mitsudah Chumash developed on compact disc by you has been an extremely valuable tool that allows me to comprehend the Chumash as well as teach it to my students. Furthermore, this work gives me the opportunity to study and understand the weekly parsha. Moreover, it gives me the ability to prepare in depth the specific psukim and rashis that I teach my students. Consequently, I am able to study and prepare for my job at my own leisure. This Chumash can benefit my students who have learning disabilities. Children who have trouble decoding written text will be able to process and understand the text. Additionally, due to the search function on the program, spelling of words can be reinforced in a pleasant way. I urge you to continue developing this product and new ones so that many individuals with special needs of all ages will be able to benefit from it tremendously. Sincerely, S. R. |
