Welcome to the Computer Sciences for the Blind website. CSB, a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization,
has been enhancing the lives of blind, visually impaired, and physically
handicapped individuals since 1997 by providing them with computer-based
Chumash, Talmud, and other traditional Jewish reference material. Video clip highlight of CSB Conference 2003
By just visiting this website, you will become a part of a special
project doing wonders with today's technology.
CSB records traditional Jewish texts as computer audio, develops
innovative hardware and software solutions for users with limited vision
or mobility to access their computers, and trains clients to use
these tools to learn Torah.
Browse our website and be astounded at what can be done with the help of
Hashem, through devoted and focused efforts. CSB takes special pride in custom designing solutions for the elderly, Holocaust survivors, and severely disabled clients. We use a host of specialty devices and methods to accommodate every individual. These include voice recognition, computer mice controlled by head or foot movement, joysticks, specialty computer devices which attach to wheelchairs and beds, highly sensitive pillow and plate switches, and even breath devices. Our Chumash software has been programmed to be controlled by any variety of these methods including an entire module which enables a blind and/or paralyzed individual to fully control the program by blowing and sipping on a computerized mouth straw. All of our software, services, training, and technical support are provided free of charge to eligible users. We assist in securing grants and sponsorships for computer equipment when possible.
